Anything weighing more than a sandwich should not be loaded onto the back and lugged around—even if only for a second. I learned this rule when I threw my back out and looked around the house for easier ways to carry my laptop and notebooks. That’s when I discovered a beat-up backpack on wheels in Alex’s room that I thought I’d use temporarily, but now, it has become a lifestyle. Some people, when I arrive at work say, “Look! Here comes the flight attendant!” and honestly, I’m flattered. Flight attendants make everything look so easy—even a jaunt down TSA way—so breezy, so fun!
But I never realized I needed an upgrade until I saw this drawing that Alex did of me—which I requested for Mother’s Day—and he more than delivered. I love it. He did a Funko Pop! version of me—but one that is just so much more glamorous than the real me when I head to work. I mean, that flower in the hair! That dress! That roller bag!

It was then, that I decided I could at least upgrade my roller bag, so I splurged a bit and got one with a quilted front pocket and all kinds of other pockets where I could place all the things I think I need for the day—including extra work pants. (If you wear clothes and go anywhere in the world where they might get snagged or caught on something or just plain fall apart, always have an extra pair of work pants to slip on—like flight attendants probably do. I mean, they already have enough in-flight emergencies from passengers and geese that might get caught in the engine. This is just one less thing to worry about.)
This bag is much more streamlined, too with a sleek look and a cute little handle. And so far, it’s pretty durable. I’ve taken it straight up steep street curbs and small flights of stairs (like two), and those wheels have stayed on—and they keep turning. It has only been a couple of days, though, so I’m not sure if the “durable” part of my review will hold up, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
For the moment, though, it’s nothing but clear skies as I roll up to work with a really cool bag, which doubles as a guardian for my backup pants.
Your Turn: What are your hacks for traveling and/or packing light?
That is a fantastic drawing 😊

I love this idea and I’m trying to come up with what to bring for a 2 week Costa Rica trip with just a carry on

As a pilot I have gone through many of these wheeled bags. I started with them about 25 years ago when they only had two wheels instead of four. The design of them has improved a lot over the years. And yes, I always carry extra pants. 🙂
That’s a great drawing!

I had no idea you were a pilot! That’s awesome! I hate flying, but if I got on a plane and found out you were the pilot, I think I’d finally be able to relax enough to sleep on a flight. Cheers!

Thank you. 🙂 Pilots are a pretty well-trained bunch, so can fly with most of them🙂.

I went the roller bag route for lugging my work projects when they got too heavy for my briefcase. Worked like a charm!

Yes–it really does help with the heavy lifting.

Alex is super talented! Your Funko self should be manufactured, just saying! Also, I love the bag! As for my packing tricks, considering that all my trips last one week tops, I’d say my trick is mostly wearing the heaviest clothes on the flight/bus, and packing a pair of black pants, a dress and a pair of shorts, and then everything else is tops, because it’s what you’ll change out of the most if you can’t do laundry!
P.S.: Never take advice from me, I’m an expert on exactly nothing! 😉

That is fantastic advice! I love it! And I absolutely love Alex’s drawing. I’m at least going to frame it for sure.

That’s a very hep bag! And a very funny portrait 😃
When I travel (rarely) I scrounge for someone else’s overnight bag. For everyday outings I have a large, floppy satchel that might accommodate a smallish baby elephant.

Thank you! And the smallish baby elephant definitely gives me an idea of the size of your bag 🙂

I had a rolling Lug bag for work and I still use it for travelling—it’s very durable. I love Funko-You!

It’s great that the bags can be used for both work and travel–and I have got to start living Funko-Me’s life–she looks like she’s having a sassy good time. Cheers 🙂

Nothing more than a sandwich on your back? Wow. I’ve been doing it wrong all these years. The good thing about smartphone to set. You don’t need to carry several items in different pouches. You can have your cards and phone together. Your little trolley bag looks like a good investment.

Yay for problem solving, being flattered by your coworkers’ nickname for you, but most especially the Funko Pop drawing. You must be so proud. He made you look so awesome. Congrats on the new fun happy bag!
