New Year, New Air: Portable Air Purifier

Sunset_Mukilteo_Beach

Hoping to create cool blasts of mountain-fresh air, while my hair swirls in a breeze of music-video slow-motion effect—I requested a portable air purifier for Christmas. And I got one, which I promptly took to work to prevent sudden sneeze attacks. While it won’t produce super-model, swoon-worthy gusts of wind for photo shoots, it will clear my nasal passages of dust, spores, and diseases (I hope).

So far, when I turn it on, I don’t notice it. But when I don’t turn it on, I do notice that I sneeze more often, so maybe it’s working. I haven’t experimented with the “portability” side of the purifier. The box appears to indicate that I could board a plane with one of these or put it in my car. I’m not sure I’d want to take my chances with either one.

Here’s what I’m hoping portable air purifiers could do one day:

–Serve as backup generators

–Cook a steak

–Cut and style my hair

–Remove unwanted clutter

–Fix me a drink

–Massage my feet

…all while providing clean, healthy air that’s just as invigorating as those York Peppermint Pattie commercials where people imagine themselves skiing down slopes and conquering the art of the luge. Clear the way!

Your Turn: Do you use an air purifier? Do you notice a difference?

  1. Instead of an air purifier, you could point a music-video-slo-mo fan at someone with long hair — their conditioner and mousse usually traps the dust, pollen, spiders, etc
But seriously yes, I run a filter and it really seems to help during High Pollen Season.

    1. We don’t have a heavy-duty air purifier–I just have a tiny one at my desk, which didn’t cost much–so it won’t take care of the whole office, but near my desk, it’s kind of nice. 🙂

  2. Ken and I have a 30 year old air purifier in our bedroom–we use it exclusively as a white noise machine. We got worried once that it wasn’t working properly and went shopping for a new one, but the sales guy kept showing us models that were “very quiet”. No! I need a noisy one. So we cleaned the filter for the first time in months and it’s back to working again. When I travel, I take a fan with me that also makes fantastic white noise:-)
