Hold my wine spritzer. “Hot girl summer”[1] will rage again, and I’m prepared with not one, but three dresses that roam together as a 3-pack on Amazon. And they’re a bargain.
They’re not really sultry or anything. They’re just basic sheaths with short sleeves, made of breathable (cotton?) fabric. And, they’re kind of thin, so I did myself a favor and ordered them in darker colors. Some might balk at the lack of substance when it comes to thread count on these dresses, but I love them.
When the weather grows warm, and the air-conditioning glitches out, and steam rises from the couch cushions, and my hair frizzes, and I’m left wondering, “why do all my dresses only come in ‘flannel,’” I can pull out these new dresses and flit about like a woodland creature escaping a sunny meadow on a 100-degree day when a “fire warning” has been issued.
Sure, the product title on the Amazon page doesn’t do these dresses much justice: “3-Pack Women Casual T-Shirt Dresses Short Sleeve Round Neck Loose Fit Tunic Dresses Summer Swing Dress.” The 3-pack wording alone is a bit strange. I expect underwear, socks, beer, and T-shirts to come in packs. Not dresses.
And when they arrived, they were all scrunched into a little plastic bag no bigger than the size of a wallet.
But, when I tried them on, I just knew I’d be mixing margaritas and hanging out in my backyard in those dresses as much as possible.
In fact, I imagine that a summer itinerary in these dresses might involve the following activities:
–Skipping through flower gardens, while guarding against sudden and gusty summer breezes (the dresses are very flouncy).
–Dangling my feet over the edge of a pier, just in time to see an orca nod in my direction as if to say, “Cool dress. I almost wore the same thing today.”
–Writing stories in the backyard about a 3-pack of dresses so powerful, the only way to stop them from taking over the world is to buy a 3-pack of matching glitter handbags.
–Wading ankle-deep into the Puget Sound to discover mermaid-Peeps that evolved after a wayward post-Easter experiment.
–Finding more interesting things sold in packs, such as shoes, piñatas, shark-shaped squishy toys, ‘60s-style van-shaped tote bags, rubber ducks, frozen corn on the cob, and spinning swizzle sticks.
Your Turn: What’s the strangest item you’ve seen while shopping or browsing online?
[1] According to an LA Times article from 2019 by Carlos De Loera, Megan Thee Stallion coined the phrase: “’Being a Hot Girl is about being unapologetically YOU, having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth, being the life of the party etc,” tweeted the “Money Good” artist.’”
This didn’t happen to me but to a friend who bought a vertically striped, swingy summer dress online. It looked really cute and she would have carried the stripes well. What she received was awful. All the stripes misaligned and seams sewn with puckers. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. It looked like a 5 year-old had done the sewing. The same company she ordered it from is still selling clothes online but I won’t mention the name here. A good example of caveat emptor!

I can’t even imagine! Misaligned stripes? That’s so strange!

Hmm, I seem to be pulling a blank for strangest thing I’ve seen online for sale. I must say “Huh?” and “Why?” and then forget whatever it is.

True–we’re probably so used to seeing strange things online–it all seems normal.

It’s amusing when we find things sold in packs that we wouldn’t expect to be in packs. I like Skippy Natural Creamy peanut butter. Who would expect it to be available in packs? But it is (it’s also sold as single jars). Enjoy your dresses — you made a good purchase!

’60s-style van-shaped tote bags?!?!! LOLLL! Man, I didn’t think “Cool dress. I almost wore the same thing today.” could be topped, but you did!
So, since they arrived scrunched in a tiny package, did they need to be ironed? And how long are they? That doesn’t look much longer than a standard T, but it’s hard to tell in the pic really.

No, they don’t need to be ironed. They’re basically travel dresses–and they hit about an inch or so above the knee.

You win! I’ve seen some funny awful sites, but, hey – sometimes it’s a win for the buyer’s of the world.

Ooh I love swing dresses. People don’t believe it but it gets super hot here in our part of Canada in the summer!

I believe you! It was 87 degrees yesterday, which is unusual for us this time of year, but I do like the heat better than the cold.

I saw tiny houses that people can live in sold on Amazon. I thought that was kind of wild. I also presently have a Barbie dog bed in my cart, so I shouldn’t really talk…

Oooh! A Barbie dog bed–that sounds like fun!

I’m jealous that you’re entering summer as we enter winter.

I love the warm weather–but it won’t stick around this week. We’ll have to wait until the end of June/July to start to have “real” summer weather, but it’s fun when we get pops of warm spells early.

Thanks for sharing this awesome find, Cecillia. I decided to to do a lot this year both in my home and in my life. It started with getting a carpet cleaning done to freshen up my space and ended with me losing close to 45 pounds. Sadly not so sadly, I now need some new clothes for summer and after reading your blog, I ordered the dresses. I LOVE them!

I’m so excited for you! I hope you enjoy them! I’ve only worn them around the house, and I’m not expecting much, but they’re super fun.

Your dress fantasies are delightful, and they look great. But I fear three dresses that scrunch into a wallet are unlikely to be cotton/ natural fabric.

I think your fears may be founded. I haven’t checked the tag for the materials, yet.

I like your choise, but I never buy dresses online, I’m always afraid they are too big or small or whatever …

I’ve lucked out a couple of times with dresses that fit just right when ordering online–but I think it’s because the places I buy them from have videos, and I can see a full view of how they actually fit–and the models often walk in them too, so I can see how the dresses react with movement.

I love when I find that favorite dress. Needs to be light, cool, and worry free. Then I just know I look good!

Agreed! I can’t wait until I can wear these dresses regularly. Right now it’s chilly and rainy, but I’m hoping the warmer weather remains steady in the coming days.
