Pink Drink

CuteRoseDrink

If luxuriating in a pink bubble bath the size of Texas has been hampered by the fact that you don’t own a Texas-sized bathing vessel, relax. Just sip on a “Cute Rose” next to the kiddie pool and let your imagination wrangle up one rodeo of a bubble-bath dream.

Better yet, have Alex make the drink for you. He’ll be turning 21 soon, so he bought himself a bartender’s book and whipped up something called a “Cute Rose,” which he gave to me and Nate to sample. And it was a beautiful thing.

It’s undeniable that we’re seeing a lot of pink these days—what with the Barbie movie and all—so if you’re heading home from the movie (which I haven’t seen yet), treat yourself to one more pink hoop-dee-doo with a pink drinkie-poo.

Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients:

2 ounces of white rum

1 1/3 ounces of pineapple juice

1 ounce of cream of coconut

1-2 drops of grenadine

Method:

–Fill a shaker about one-third of the way with crushed ice.

–Pour in all the ingredients.

–Shake, shake, shake.

–Strain and pour into a clear glass of choice.

–Garnish as desired. (Alex used a maraschino cherry.)

Results:

Refreshing, tropical, sweet—like a cotton-candy sky on an island of your imagination. Sip slowly. Soak it in.

Your Turn: What’s your favorite color for a drink? (Does not have to be alcoholic.)

  1. M has been making some great summer drinks lately. Yesterday he blended a fresh pear and half a honeydew melon with Pear William liqueur and lots of crushed ice. It was very fresh and not too sweet.
Thanks for the great recipe – that’s a terrific summer sipper.

  2. “pink hoop-dee-doo with a pink drinkie-poo.” I love it. Pink drinks work for me. I love the fruity ones. A bartender book is a great idea! There are so many ingredients I’d need to get on hand. Grenadine being one. Cream of coconut is a thing? Also, your son is my hero.

    1. That sounds lovely! I think Alex had enough of drunk people when he worked retail last summer, so probably not bartending, but he has a job this summer as an optometrist’s technician/assistant–and it’s such a cool job! I’m so glad he doesn’t have to deal with really mean and/or drunk people anymore. Cheers!

  4. Sounds like a delicious and refreshing way to get falling-down drunk. 🙂 Not that I would know about this from personal experience. I actually made quite a lovely summer cocktail last week. A Rosemary Paloma, with sparkling grapefruit soda in place of the traditional grapefruit juice, good silver tequila, fresh lime, rosemary simple syrup, and garnished with slices of pink grapefruit and fresh rosemary. It was delish and I drank three of them….don’t ask what happened after because I don’t remember. 😉
