Transform dessert into a whimsical crime scene! We’re definitely in the Halloween spirit at the Fixin’ Leaks and Leeks Headquarters, though we haven’t gotten our pumpkins yet, and there’s nary a spider web in sight. But I did find a recipe for apple crumble, and with a flick of the pen, it now has a Halloween name and the “ghost foam” is spirited, indeed, with a dash of amaretto.
I basically followed the Mom on Timeout recipe for easy apple crumble, but I omitted some of the salt and added whipped cream laced with amaretto (1 cup of whipping cream + 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar + a few drops of amaretto—all beaten together until soft peaks formed).
Results: Warm, sweet, comforting, with a really crisp crust. Also, those apples put their guts into this dish, and I’m happily horribly frighteningly satisfied—down to the core.

Your Turn: What treats are you enjoying this season—whatever season it is where you live?
I prefer apple crumble over spiders or their webs. 🕷️ Thanks so much for the recipe; so seasonal and yummy. 🙂

Yes–if I have a choice between spiders and apple crumble, I will most likely pick the apple crumble every time 🙂

It’s spring in Australia and we’re enjoying spring lamb 🐑
Hopefully it will be summer soon and there will be an abundance of prawns, crabs, and Moreton Bay bugs to be enjoyed cold or hot with melted butter.

Thanks! We ended up having dessert first last night–there’s some left over, but I’m pretty sure it won’t last long. 🙂

Your apple crumble looks wonderful. You’ve reminded me that my mother made a dessert called Apple Brown Betty. If I remember it correctly, she used Wheaties as an ingredient.

Thank you! I love Apple Brown Betty–but I hadn’t heard of Wheaties as an ingredient–sounds good!

I think it was either Wheaties or corn flakes. I’ll ask my brother. Maybe he remembers.

Ooo I love that! I got some peaches a couple weeks ago from the local produce stand and made peach crisp. It was delicious! I’ve also made pumpkin dumb cake. I want to make an apple crisp soon. I’m off tomorrow from work so I want to make some goodies. Maybe some m&m cookies and pumpkin cookies of some kind or pumpkin bread! So yummy!

Thank you for the recipe, Here in Italy it’s apple time, so it’s perfect. It’s also Halloween time, since a few years, and I love waiting for children asking for candies
