A Twinkie and a Doughnut Have My Back

I’ve turned to pastry products to boost my sinking spine. They say you are what you eat, and I’m just not myself without a doughnut on my seat.

The doughnut is actually one of those circular-shaped pillows with the hole in the middle to support the tailbone, and the Twinkie is a Funko Plushies™ I shove between my back and the back of the chair.

So far, they’re a sweet deal. They didn’t cost much, and they haven’t lost their shape in over a month’s worth of use. The doughnut pillow has Memory Foam in it, so it adapts to the way I sit, which is great. The Twinkie springs back nicely too, though I’m sure it screams into the doughnut-shaped pillow at night because I lean against it pretty hard during the day.

Pros of the Doughnut/Twinkie Combo:

–They’re just so adorable. The doughnut pillow has a lovely, colorful paisley pattern that complements my green plastic plants on my desk, and the Twinkie has a “smooshably” cute face.

–I can place the Twinkie where I want it throughout the day to alleviate various pressure points on my back.

Cons of the Doughnut/Twinkie Combo:

–There is no massage mechanism built into the Twinkie or the doughnut pillow, but I guess that’s what Nate’s for.

–I don’t know how long the Twinkie will last. It’s showing signs of stress, depression, anxiety, and a general, “no one told me I’d be used this way” malaise.

–The Twinkie might seek revenge.

In any case, this setup works for me for now. My back is less stressed because the Twinkie and the doughnut are absorbing all my pain. I might even replace the couch cushions with Twinkie plush and thus form a support group.

Your Turn: What is your “plush one” when you sit at the computer to work? Do you use pillows? A special chair? Discuss!

  1. You’ve given me food for thought. I have an office chair at home and the gas lift apparatus is not working properly. It’s been in this state of disrepair for >10 years. I occasionally contemplate a new chair, but the chair itself is comfortable. Perhaps a cushion may help.

    1. Love it! (Food for thought). The chair you see in the picture is actually Nate’s chair. Mine is a lot more worn–I’ve had it over ten years as well. I just can’t replace a chair for some reason.

  2. Hilarious. “sweet deal.” Ha! I have a pillow under my bum and another behind my back. They are not cute, nor do they have a smooshable face, but they get the job done. They are definitely worse for wear, but, oh well. They “absorb my pain.” 😛

  3. Years ago I had a disc herniation and had to have surgery, so I’ve used mega-adjustable office chairs ever since. The back part has to be straight (no reclining – that hurts!) with the seat part tipped slightly forward. Back pain can be awful, but I see you’re keeping your sense of humour intact!

  4. This is such a clever invention for the discomfort of sitting too long in chairs. I wish I could share a clever way I relieve the tension but, have none (sigh).

This my first time to your blog. Come visit me!

    Thanks for sharing.
