Sasquatch lives near the Fixin’ Leaks ‘n Leeks Headquarters. There have been sightings—by others—not us. As you can imagine, I’ve not slept well for quite a while. My nervous system doesn’t understand the difference between just going about the day like a “normal” person and escaping rampant cryptid attacks. So a doctor recently suggested I take magnesium to help me sleep.
But what if I sleep through a Sasquatch invasion?—said no one, ever—but me. However, I decided it was time to throw Bigfoot to the wind and give the magnesium a try.
Swallowing magnesium gel caps seems like a simple thing to do, but mine got stuck in my throat, which sent me into such a panic that I thought I could not breathe at all—even as I shouted, “Nate! I think I’m choking!”
So much for calming sensations before bed. Then, I discovered I could sprinkle the gel cap powder over water and drink it—which is something I wouldn’t even wish upon the Mothman. The powder takes like sugar-encrusted shrimp. (It’s a vomit-inducing move that could get you out of a terrible date, though.)
However, I did find some really yummy Greek yogurt in the following flavors: vanilla, toasted coconut, and crème brûlée. Then, I emptied the powder into the yogurt, stirred, and ate my magnesium.
I’ve never slept better in my life. So night, night, Bigfoot. Count and eat your own sheep. I’ve got new weird dreams to dream.
Your Turn: Do you have trouble sleeping? What have you tried?
Yes, I do. I count my breaths, inhale for the odd numbers, exhale for the even numbers. It works more often than not.

Hi. My brother hasn’t slept well in years. He has tried a million remedies. Not sure if he has tried magnesium gel caps. I’ll mention it to him. How many milligrams of magnesium are in each cap? Thanks.

I think 240 milligrams? I’ll have to check. Hold on. Yep–it’s 240 milligrams, but he should probably check with a doctor first.

As I’ve aged, leg and foot cramps have become more common. I do swallow a magnesium tablet every evening and it seems to help reduce the frequency of leg and foot cramps.

Yes! A wonderful side-effect of magnesium is less foot and leg cramps. I’ve noticed a difference.

The best sleep I have is before I actually get upstairs to bed. One time my daughter-in-law came into the living room, television on, mother-in-law dead… I wasn’t, but she thought I was. No need for a Fitbit to tell when you’re in a deep sleep.

Ha! I can relate. I often fall asleep in front of the TV.

I have had chronic insomnia for decades and have probably tried everything – and I mean everything. I have periods where it’s not too bad but then it will come back. A combination of calcium and magnesium has helped (you can get them combined in one pill) taken with warm milk (ugh – but it works). Good luck with this. I feel for you.

I’m so sorry you’re having trouble sleeping! I’m sure Nate will be on the lookout for Sasquatch! At least he’d better! I do have some issues falling asleep (staying asleep is not that bad), but usually rain sounds, or, alternatively, the certification course I have to take for work, put me right to sleep! 🙂

Nate is definitely on Sasquatch patrol!

Now I must ask… what happens if Sasquatch does come around for a social call?

Hmmmm–I think I would have to stick around for that one. I would definitely write about the whole incident in this blog. 🙂

You sure would! Maybe you’ll even find out Sasquatch is a perfectly lovely houseguest! I would love to read about that encounter should it ever happen!

Is there a reason it tastes like shellfish? I’m allergic to shellfish but I’d love to try this and see if it helps me!

I don’t know. Hold on while I check. Okay, it says here that I”m taking 240 milligrams of magnesium glycinate. The other ingredients are vegetable cellulose and ascorbyl palmitate. Whatever that is.

That sounds safe for me—I’ll try it!

I have trouble sleeping, as I am very anxious. Sometimes I drink some drops called “natural”, with herbs …. they don’t work so much

I also take magnesium before I go to bed. Listening to soothing TV programmes – lots of music or an excellent movie – helps. Also meditation. And I take GABA daily for my autism.
