Oh, What a Filling! “Dubai” Chocolate from Costco

This photo displays a square of "Dubai" dark chocolate, broken open on a white plate. The pistachio filling is exposed. Behind this square are two more green foil-wrapped chocolates.

Voluptuous viral victuals thrust themselves in my face on Instagram daily, but I usually just move on. Until I met the Dubai chocolate bar. Yes, I’m late to the party, but that’s how much control I’ve shown—and I can’t anymore. I’ve watched so many videos of people cracking open these chocolate bars on social media—and this delicious-looking pistachio filling just spills out—and there I am squeezing a toothpaste tube, hoping that if I close my eyes and wish hard enough, the tooth fairy will replace my toothpaste with pistachio filling. The dentist wouldn’t be happy, but I would look forward to brushing my teeth.

However, the words “Dubai chocolate bar” sound expensive, so I figured going OG was out. And that’s when Nate came in clutch. He found a bag of individually wrapped Dubai chocolate squares—at Costco!

Of course, Nate was skeptical, but he unwrapped a square right away, ate it, and said, “That’s good.” Then, he unwrapped another one and ate it, too. This is what that means in Nate language: “Holy, mother!*#@$% I’m moving to a deserted island with this stuff—and no one is invited.”

So, I’m thinking one bag won’t be enough for our household. We need to stock up.

The chocolate on the outside is a good, quality creamy chocolate with just a hint of bittersweet, which I like. It makes a most satisfying cracking sound when you break it open. The inside is creamy pistachio confection perfection—with crispy bits of phyllo dough (kadayif).

Mostly, you’ll just want to eat these all by themselves, but if you want serving suggestions, here they are. Serve these with:

  • A social media hiatus
  • Buckets of extra pistachio filling (in case you need a dipping sauce)
  • A firehose that’s blasting water (you will be thirsty)
  • A lifetime membership to Costco
  • Flowery meadows filled with mint-colored unicorns that like to share chocolate and books

In other news: I’m back at The Daily Drunk as the adult beverages columnist. Woohoo!

Your Turn: Is there a food trend you are following on social media?

    1. I see so many restaurant menus that carry “sous vide” meats–and whenever we travel as a family to a restaurant and see that on the menu, we all shout, “Gary!” 🙂

  1. Never heard of this. Because I am 80. Clearly. So happy you found an easy way to get your fix. And good of Nate to control his reaction. 🙂 I’ll have to look for these.

      1. I’m not fond of pistachio ice cream, so I’m somewhat skeptical on these. But, if I came across them, I would def try nonetheless!
