Random Dip Night: Red Pepper Sauce

This is a photo of red pepper sauce/dip in a blue Fiesta Ware bowl with a basket of homemade rolls next to it. There's a spoon in the dip, and the items are placed on a marbled countertop.

Random dip generators (RDGs) would take the drudgery out of planning dipner, the meal that comes right before dinner in my house. In my wildest of foodie fits, I’d imagined the RDG would be a spinning mechanism, mounted to the fridge, that could scan items inside, spinning them in combinations so as to make delightful dip flavors. Online, I searched the words “random dip generator,” and AI came up with only one dip: loaded bacon ranch. Do better, AI!

There are websites dedicated to random meal generators, and they’re pretty cool, but I stuck with the old-timey method of looking inside my refrigerator and deciding what dip I could make with what was on hand. I had a jar of roasted red peppers, which was enough to inspire me to make a saucy red pepper dip. So, if you’re tired of spinning out of control, thinking about what to make for dipner, let me do the spinning for you:

Red Pepper Sauce, it’s What’s for Dipner

1 six-ounce jar of roasted red peppers, drained and chopped

3-4 garlic cloves peeled and chopped

2 teaspoons of ground cumin

1 teaspoon of paprika

1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes

1 tablespoon of lemon juice

2 tablespoons of olive oil

Sea salt to taste

Combine everything in a blender and blend, blend, blend. You can serve this dip with crackers or fresh-baked bread (which is what we opted for).
