I just bamboleioed so hard, and I have no regrets. Nate took me to see the Gipsy Kings live at the Chateau St. Michelle estate/winery in Woodinville, Washington last weekend—and I still have so many thoughts:
- The venue was amazeballs (beautiful gardens/charming estate), and the Gipsy Kings were incredible. They sound even better live than they do recorded, if that is even possible.
- Wine stations!!! They had lots of places where you could buy bottles of wine. Guests are strongly encouraged to bring their own wine openers (there are restrictions on size) and plastic cups, but if you forget, they have everything covered. They also had slushie wine concoctions that looked really good.
- The food truck options were kind of meh. Nate and I got tacos. The chicken had a delicious sauce with some kick, but the meat was dry. I loved the fresh lime and radish, though. The ice cream truck was to scream for. The salted caramel tasted like butterscotch pudding, and I would have volared away with it in a minute. Yum! (Next time, we might get take-out or fancy picnic fixings, but we’d save room for the ice cream truck.)

- Shout-out to the woman who danced all night long like no one was watching, even venturing out into the crowd, snagging some unsuspecting man, and dancing with him, too. And Unsuspecting Man is a hero.
- Shout-out to the conga line that formed spontaneously and fell apart around the middle section, row D or so.
We paid for seats that were just in front of the lawn, but we had a decent view of the stage. They were a bit spendy but worth it. If we had been in the lawn behind us, we probably wouldn’t have been able to see much.
But were the seats comfortable? No. However, if you’re in your seat the whole time during a Gipsy Kings concert, are you even a fan? The real fans are shamelessly swaying their backsides to and fro and clapping out of rhythm.
In any case, I’m all clapped and tapped out. It’s the closest thing to clubbing I’ll get these days. Yet, even while my drooping eyelids said no más, my feet said, djobi, djoba, toda la noche.
Your Turn: What’s the last concert you attended?
Envious! I love the Gypsy Kings. And their punk-second-cousins Gogol Bordello.

I’ve never heard of their punk second cousins. So, I just pulled up a music video of their music–and I love it!! Thank you so much for introducing me to Gogol Bordello. Cheers!

The Gypsy Kings are wonderful! It sounds like you had a great time (except for the food) and that the wine and the venue were pretty nice, too. 😊

It was so much fun. I’d do the whole series if I could. Cheers!

The last concert I attended was in 1980. It was at the Noosa showgrounds on a Saturday afternoon and evening. There were multiple Australian rock bands. There was also a haze of marijuana smoke.

I think the last concert I attended was The Moody Blues some time in the 1990s. It was a good concert, although there were an awful lot of old people there.😁

Sore feet and stiff back are a concern for the day after the concert that sounded a very very good one and super fun night💃🕺
My last concert was Metallica in June, two nights in a row and a voiceless fur a week after it but like the tipsy, it worth it🤩

“Bring your own wine opener” is the kind of practical detail I wish more concert write-ups included – that is genuinely the thing that ruins an evening. Sorry about the dry chicken, but a salted caramel that tastes like butterscotch pudding more than makes up for it. Lawn venues at a winery are also a rare category where nobody minds if a kid falls asleep halfway through the set.

Yes!! The wine opener was in the fine print, but at least the venue had people who would open the bottle for you if you absolutely needed it. Kids had a blast at that concert!

Hubby got me into that band years ago. He’s pleased to learn they’re still touring. My hat’s off to that dancer and The Hero too!
