Random dip generators (RDGs) would take the drudgery out of planning dipner, the meal that comes right before dinner in my house. In my wildest of foodie fits, I’d imagined the RDG would be a spinning mechanism, mounted to the fridge, that could scan items inside, spinning them in combinations so as to make delightful dip flavors. Online, I searched the words “random dip generator,” and AI came up with only one dip: loaded bacon ranch. Do better, AI!
There are websites dedicated to random meal generators, and they’re pretty cool, but I stuck with the old-timey method of looking inside my refrigerator and deciding what dip I could make with what was on hand. I had a jar of roasted red peppers, which was enough to inspire me to make a saucy red pepper dip. So, if you’re tired of spinning out of control, thinking about what to make for dipner, let me do the spinning for you:
Red Pepper Sauce, it’s What’s for Dipner
1 six-ounce jar of roasted red peppers, drained and chopped
3-4 garlic cloves peeled and chopped
2 teaspoons of ground cumin
1 teaspoon of paprika
1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Sea salt to taste
Combine everything in a blender and blend, blend, blend. You can serve this dip with crackers or fresh-baked bread (which is what we opted for).
Other serving suggestions:
- Baskets of fidget spinners
- At least a dozen flamingo-shaped pitchers filled with sangria
- Red pepper-shaped pillows
- Potato chips shaped like circus animals
- An assortment of flip-flops
- The cat that meows Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”
Your Turn: What random things have you made from your fridge/pantry this week?
My favourite RDG is the local Turkish place which always has delicious dips.

Time to stock up. 🙂

Yes!! My husband doesn’t like stocking up because he’s afraid the food will go bad before we use it.

Thanks for the recipe, Cecelia! I like red pepper -based dips much more than tomato. And flamingo-shaped pitchers filled with sangria is definitely a stellar addition. 😊

The rolls were still warm, too–which made it even better.

There’s nothing better than potato chips shaped like circus animals. I can’t get enough of them!

I wish they were a thing. Just searched the internet now–and no–it’s only the cookies/crackers.

Random things! Perfectly suitable for my project: zero waste. At the moment, I must find a way to use old bread …

I can’t wait to see what you do with the bread–so many tasty possibilities! 🙂

I wanted to cook a recipe with rigatoni, but I ran out, so I used macaroni instead and it came out okay.

Wonder if it would make a good dip? Maybe? (lol)

Definitely served with a lot of cheese and big tortilla chips. Anything can be used as a dip. 😂

I’m totally down for a Rick Astley-meowing cat! I made a chicken dish with white wine, dijon mustard, garlic, paprika, parmesan cheese, lemon juice, and cream, and served it with wilted spinach and mushrooms. All just random stuff I had in the fridge and pantry. The best kind of cooking, IMHO. Your pepper dip sounds delish!
