To the Theater!

My going-out getup got out again last weekend. It made it to dinner and a show! Nate treated the Fixin’ Leaks and Leeks Team to a night at the local theater to see Becoming Dr. Ruth, a 90-minute performance without intermission, based on the life of sex therapist, Dr. Ruth Westheimer.

I was a little concerned at first…for Nate. The show would focus on just one actor with one set. Would there be lulls in the performance? Would we fall asleep?

I had nothing to worry about. The show was fast paced.

Also, the setting consisted of “moving boxes,” some of which the Dr. Ruth character would open to tell stories about objects or pictures that were significant and part of her narrative. The lights would illuminate all the white boxes to transform them into buildings or display photos of family members and distinct places.

And that’s when the DIY wheels in my mind started turning. I figured I could use some special effects like that in my own house. So I’ll be looking up how to project livelier images onto parts of the Fixin’ Leaks and Leeks headquarters that need a little more love—like the pantry. I think I should get a camera that would project neat shelves, stocked with tidy jars. My closet could use this kind of technology-artistry—and all the walls we haven’t painted yet.

So it looks like a trip to the theater might result in a resounding blast of the craft alarm—a very theatrical one with costume changes and everything.

Your Turn: When’s the last time you’ve been to the theater? What did you see?
